THE FIVE PRINCIPLES
THE FIVE PRINCIPLES OF REFORMATION
ARE
THE FIVE PRINCIPLES OF THE EVERLASTING COVENANT
By Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura)
Matthew 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the Word only, and my servant shall be healed.
Acts 26:22 (the Apostle Paul before king Agrippa) …saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say…
Isaiah 8:2 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is NO light in them.
Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Hebrews 4:12 For the Word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Luke 4:32 And they were astonished at His doctrine: for His Word was with power.
By Faith Alone (Sola Fide)
Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written,
The just shall live by faith. (Quoted four times in the Bible) Habakuk 2:4 Galatians 3:11 Hebrews 10:38
Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Romans 4:3 Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Romans 5:1.2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Luke 7:50 (Jesus at Simon’s feast) And He said to the woman , Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
By Grace Alone (Sola Gratia)
(Merriam Webster’s Dictionary definition of ‘Grace’ – Unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification.)
Ephesians 2:8.9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Acts 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved
Titus 2:11.12 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. (Grace teaches)
‘Grace’ and ‘Holy Spirit’ are used interchangeably in the Bible.
Luke 2:40 And the child (Jesus) grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon Him.
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace. See also Hebrews 10:29
Through Christ Alone (Solus Christus)
1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
Glory to God Alone (Soli Deo Gloria)
Psalm 148:13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven. (God’s name is His character. …whose name is holy. Isiah 57:15)
Romans 16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.
Jude 1:25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever.
1 Timothy 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Isaiah 2:11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.
Summery: Comparing these Bible texts shows that these five principles are all interlinked – as one unit. The Scripture points Christ, who is the Author of faith. Grace connected with faith. Rom.5:1.2
Faith comes by the Word of God. Grace is linked to God’s ‘Word. Acts 20:32
The grace and love of God is revealed in the whole Bible and therefore glory to God alone through Jesus Christ. If we take only one of these five principles out, the way of salvation is destroyed. And what is left? A fake gospel.
For the gospel is the Word of truth. See Eph.1:13 and Col.1:5.6
