The coronation of Christ
“Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38 saying: ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Luke 19: 37, 38
“Left alone, Jesus “went up into a mountain apart to pray.” For hours He prayed for power to reveal to men the divine character of His mission, that Satan might not blind their understanding and pervert their judgment. He knew that His days on earth were nearly ended, and that few would receive Him. His disciples were to be grievously tried, their long-cherished hopes disappointed. In place of His exaltation to the throne of David, they were to witness His crucifixion. This was to be indeed His true coronation; but they did not discern this, and without the Holy Spirit the faith of the disciples would fail. For them He poured out His supplications with bitter agony and tears.” From heaven with love 250.3
The Disciples did not discern that:
1. In the place of His exaltation to the throne of David they were to witness His crucifixion. – “This was to be indeed His true coronation.”
2. “They clothed Him with purple; Then after they took his robe.”
3.”…and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head” Mark 15:17
4. “…and a reed in His right hand.” Matthew 27:29
5. “And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him…”
6 “…saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Matthew 27:29, Mark 15:18
7. “Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!” – Mark 15:9 “Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
8. “Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Yes, what a shame and pity but this was the ceremony of Christ coronation when by His death He became the king not only of Israel but the king of the Earth and the Humankind.
