Creation Story
In the very beginning, God created all things. He created the heavens and the earth and the animals and He created you! Before He created the earth, it was dark and empty. God said “Let there be light!” and there was light! He saw that the light was good and so He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night”; and there was evening and morning. This was the first day.
On the second day, God created the wonderful blue sky. He saw that it was good too! On the third day God created the beautiful blue ocean to cover the entire earth. That’s a lot of water! Then He thought that some nice dry land would be a good idea. So God said “Let dry ground appear.” And there it stood. And it was good!
Now the earth was looking a little bit plain. So God made the plants, trees, flowers and grass to cover the land. This was the end of the third day. And do you know what God said? Of course you do, He said it was good!
On the fourth day God created the blazing sun, the silvery moon and the twinkling stars. The night was too dark before, but now we have beautiful nightlights in the sky! Isn’t that good!
On the fifth day God thought the ocean was too empty. He created the fish, dolphins, whales and all the creatures of the sea to fill the ocean! The ocean was full of life but the sky was empty. So God created the birds, big and small to soar through the air. He saw the water and air were filled with marvellous creatures and God saw that it was good.
We are now up to the sixth day; the creation week is almost finished! God filled the land with many different types of creatures. Can you name some? He created the horses and the cattle, the lions and the tigers and the wolves and bears. He even made the zebras!
But aren’t we forgetting something here? What about the people? God made the very first humans, Adam and Eve on the sixth day and they lived happily in the Garden of Eden. God looked at all He had made and declared that it was very good!
By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing so on the seventh day He rested. He blessed the seventh day and made it holy.
What a wonderful world we live in! Let us praise our God for creating the earth for us to live in!
